Process Engineer

JOB PURPOSE:  Strongwell, the world leader in the manufacture of pultruded composite products, is seeking an engineer for its Chatfield, Minnesota manufacturing facility. The Process Engineer will work closely with employees in operations, technology and product development to improve processes and systems, productivity improvements and waste reduction efforts. Flexibility is necessary to support multiple shift operations when required. Strong interpersonal, analytical, communication and problem solving skills are required.

REQUIREMENTS / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • B.S. in mechanical, chemical or composite engineering
  • Creative technical aptitude
  • A keen desire to learn a unique and growing manufacturing process
  • Hands-on capabilities with ability to communicate effectively with various manufacturing departments
  • Understanding of best manufacturing processes
  • Ability to multi-task assignments
  • Analyze, recommend and implement process improvements
  • Report on process activities
  • Recommend and implement productivity improvements
  • Recommend and implement waste reduction processes
  • Investigate and resolve production problems
  • Work with development team to investigate new processes and formulas

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate with verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Efficient in 3D modeling software, specifically SolidWorks
  • Composite industry experience in process engineering

IDEAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 to 5 years’ process engineering experience
  • ISO, AutoCad, ERP Systems exposure
  • Environmental and Safety familiarity
  • Pultrusion manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Process automation

Estimator

JOB PURPOSE: This position is responsible for estimating all fiberglass projects, including the development of costing/pricing, preparing and submitting bids/proposals as well as estimating material alterations after an order has been received.  Works with the Industrial Product Sales Manager, Engineering, Drafting and Fabrication to convey work required based on the written quotation. Coordinates with customer and corporate representatives to obtain complete design information. Exhibits professional presence consistent with company’s ideals and values, at all times. Interacts effectively with all departments to facilitate a positive, productive working relationship.

POSITION PREREQUISITES: A college degree or equivalent experience is preferred and requires strong skills in blue print reading.  Basic estimating/material takeoff skills experience are preferred. Proven ability in mathematics, as well as oral and written communications and computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Thoroughly reviews client’s specifications and prepares, coordinates and publishes accurate job estimates.
  • Accurately utilizes all estimating components.
  • Updates costing information on a regular basis.
  • Interfaces with customers as needed to determine requirement of projects.
  • Maintains quotations for future reference and develops historical data.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work with others in a cooperative fashion.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interfaces with appropriate departments to generate accurate estimating elements.
  • Displays detail orientation without compromising effective time management skills.
  • Maintains perpetual competency with applicable technology.
  • Trains entry level estimators.
  • Works well with minimum supervision.
  • As a positive company representative, influentially provides suggestions to secure order.

QUALIFICATIONS: Experience, Competencies, and Education

  • College degree or equivalent experience preferred.
