Manufacturing Manager – Bristol, Virginia Location

Job Purpose:

This position is primarily responsible for the overall direction and management of the Pultrusion and Fabrication departments. The incumbent provides leadership and direction for the production departments and continuously works to improve efficiency and reduce waste while meeting scheduled delivery dates as defined by the production schedule. This position is responsible for developing metrics that identify accountability and that align with operational goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans and manages the activities of Pultrusion and Fabrication production departments.
  • Identifies proper level of personnel, machines, and material required to meet scheduled production requirements.
  • Inventory control and management responsibility for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators regularly to insure improved efficiency and reduced waste. Capable of reporting production performance in clear concise format to all levels within the organization.
  • Prepares department capital and operating budgets consistent with forecasted activity levels.
  • Assists with planning and directing an efficient layout of equipment and flow of materials.
  • Works as an integral part of the operations team interfacing with setup, maintenance, Engineering, production control, procurement, machine shop, and shipping departments.
  • Promotes activities that improve material and labor productivity.
  • Displays competency in quality standards and assures quality expectations are met.
  • Maintains world-class housekeeping for manufacturing areas.
  • Ensures OSHA recordable incidents show continuous improvement.
  • Administers corporate policies in fair, equitable and timely fashions.

Qualifications: Experience, Competencies, and Education

  • College degree preferred
  • Must have seven (7) years’ experience in operations management and/or supervision in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Ability to motivate team members.
  • Proficient in the use of computers.

Process Engineer – Bristol, Virginia Location

Strongwell, the world leader in the manufacture of pultruded composite products, is seeking an engineer for its Bristol, Virginia manufacturing facility. The Process Engineer will work closely with employees in operations, technology and product development to improve processes and systems, productivity improvements and waste reduction efforts. Flexibility is necessary to support multiple shift operations when required. Strong interpersonal, analytical, communication and problem solving skills are required.

Requirements / Key Responsibilities include:

  • B.S. in mechanical, chemical or composite engineering
  • Creative technical aptitude.
  • A keen desire to learn a unique and growing manufacturing process.
  • Hands-on capabilities with ability to communicate effectively with various manufacturing departments.
  • Understanding of best manufacturing processes
  • Ability to multi-task assignments
  • Analyze, recommend and implement process improvements
  • Report on process activities
  • Recommend and implement productivity improvements
  • Recommend and implement waste reduction processes
  • Investigate and resolve production problems
  • Work with development team to investigate new processes and formulas

Qualifications:

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate with verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization
  • Efficient in 3D modeling software, specifically Inventor
  • Composite industry experience in process engineering

Ideal Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years’ process engineering experience
  • ISO, AutoCad, ERP Systems exposure
  • Environmental and Safety familiarity
  • Pultrusion manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Process automation
