Recruiting for the Next Class of Manufacturers
Recently Te-kai Shu (Social Media and Business Development Manager) and Carrie White (Quality Assurance Manager-Bristol) were invited to speak as part of a manufacturing panel sponsored by SVAM (Southwest Virginia Alliance for Manufacturing) and Emory and Henry College Career Services to address the looming talent shortage in advanced manufacturing. Panelists represented companies from Strongwell, General Dynamics and Somic America. During the 60 minute Q&A format lyceum, students were asked questions regarding the employment shortage, issues affecting globalization, skills required in manufacturing, community impact, diversity in the workplace and advancement opportunities within manufacturing sectors compared to retail and service sectors. Manufacturing representatives advocated the importance of students participating in internship opportunities and to continuously challenge their own perspectives during their collegiate careers.
Strongwell would like to thank Emory and Henry Career Services and SVAM for the opportunity to speak to such an enthusiastic crowd regarding talent retention and development in southwest Virginia.
