Strongwell Hosts Entrepreneurial Minds from Virginia Intermont
On October 23rd, 2013, over 15 business students from Virginia Intermont College visited Strongwell. Every semester, business majors from VI tour local manufacturers as part of their entrepreneurialism curriculum. These business students chose Strongwell as part of this year’s tour due to the significant role manufacturing plays within American communities. These students discussed case studies which showed how the roles of business operations, technology, science, and marketing enable Strongwell to be the world’s leading fiber reinforced polymers pultruder.
During the students’ visit, David Ring (Manager of Government Affairs), Meghan Carty (Pricing Manager), Melissa Harrison (Fabrication Estimator), and Te-kai Shu (Print and Social Media Specialist) illustrated how the high strength, easy to install, non-corrosive, durability and nonconductive nature of FRP products behaved vs. traditional materials. These students were also shown how the in-house engineering, manufacturing and R&D capabilities of the company continually gives Strongwell the competitive edge against domestic and global competitors.
Strongwell has always been an eager advocate of promoting FRP and the importance of manufacturing to future business leaders within the local community. Strongwell looks forward to mentoring and assisting its local partners on future endeavors. Strongwell would also like to thank David Hite (Virginia Intermont Assistant Business Professor) for coordinating and taking the time to visit Strongwell.
