Stair Tread Solutions for Slippery Stairs
Ensuring safety is a critical factor for every industry, and stairways are often a cause for concern. Reducing the risk of slips and falls in stairways is important, and Strongwell provides a range of stair tread solutions that can help to reduce the risk of injury. In today’s blog we will outline some of the industries our stair treads can be used in.
Railway and subway stations gain a lot of footfall, especially during rush hour periods, and the companies who run these stations need to ensure their passengers have a safe journey. The stairways in these types of stations are typically made of concrete and can often be open to the elements. Due to their exposure to these harsh conditions, these stairways can often start to damage and crack which can result in maintenance being needed.
The DURATREADTM FRP stair tread covers from Strongwell provide a quick and easy solution to ensuring railway staircases are safe and require minimal maintenance. The bright yellow color of the stair treads ensures that passengers can see each step and the gritted surface reduces the risk of slips. They are easy to install, ensuring that there is minimum downtime of the staircases and reducing costs.
Water parks are extremely popular attractions, especially during the summer months, and they can get very slippery. Lile railways, the companies who own water parks want to ensure that their customers have a safe and enjoyable day.
One common issue for water parks is ensuring that water can flow freely and avoid flooding, both the DURADEK® and DURAGRID® pultruded grating stair treads allow water to pass through and also provide a level of safety with their surface. These stair treads also have a high level of corrosion resistance, which is essential for waterparks due to the chemicals used to keep the water clean.

In this blog post we’ve touched on just a few of the applications for our stair treads. Our DURATREADTM stair treads are produced using high strength fiberglass with different resin systems. A quartz grit is used to ensure the stair tread is slip resistant and durable.
Depending on the application requirements, the DURATREADTM are available in a range of thicknesses and depths. As standard, they come in lengths of 12 inches, but other custom measurements are available upon request.
The standard color for these stair treads is dark gray with yellow nosing to ensure they are visible, but other colors are available upon request. These stair treads can also be customized with safety messages if required.
